
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced the sighting of the crescent moon, signifying the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
Abubakar, who is also the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), made the announcement on Friday in Sokoto.
He said that reports of the moon sighting were received from various locations, including Maiduguri and Bama in Borno State, confirming the start of Ramadan fasting on Saturday, March 1.
The Sultan urged Muslims to use the period for deep spiritual reflection, prayers, and acts of charity. He also called for peace and unity among Nigerians, stressing the importance of supporting the needy during the holy month.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, and devotion.
