Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have abducted a professor of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), Abubakar El- Jummah, along with other passengers on the Damaturu-Biu road near Kamuya village in Borno State.
Insight Northeast gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday when the insurgents intercepted two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus, taking an unspecified number of male passengers while releasing the female travelers.
A security source, who confirmed the abduction, said Eljuma, a Dean in the Faculty of Engineering and a contender for the Vice-Chancellorship of NAUB, was among those kidnapped.
“We are requesting your prayers in this holy month of Ramadan for their quick release,” the source said.
Kamuya village, located about 10 kilometers from Buratai, the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai (Rtd), has witnessed several abductions and attacks in the last decade.
A staff member of NAUB, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the university management was holding an emergency meeting over the abduction.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
