Taraba Police Arrest Notorious Criminal, Recover Arms And Ammunition

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a notorious criminal and recovered arms and ammunition as part of efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.

According to a press release from the police, the arrest of Umar Ahmad, 40, followed credible intelligence and the collaboration of police operatives with a local vigilante group. Ahmad, who had been on the police’s radar for months, was apprehended on April 18, 2025, at about 1100hrs at a checkpoint in Jalingo.

In a subsequent search at Mayo Faran village, Mayo Belwa LGA, near the border between Taraba and Adamawa states, two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and 39 live rounds of ammunition were recovered. The police further revealed that one of the rifles, with breach number 08893, was stolen from the Taraba State Police Command during a 2023 ambush on the Anti-Kidnapping Squad. The ambush resulted in the death of ASP Aminu Nuhu.

CP Emmanuel Simon Bretet, the Commissioner of Police, commended the efforts of the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime. He urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid the fight against criminality in the state.
