Two Killed In Renewed Farmer-herder Clash In Taraba

Two persons have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a renewed clash between farmers and herders in Bandawa village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The clash, which occurred on May 11, began after a 34-year-old farmer, Buhari Malam, was reportedly attacked with a machete by suspected herders while working on his farm.

Malam later died at the Bandawa Primary Health Care Centre as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.

His death triggered a reprisal by angry youths, who killed five cows and injured seven others belonging to the herders.

The violence escalated on May 12 when another farmer, identified as Ishaku Tunde, was attacked and sustained multiple machete wounds.

Later the same day, one Dauda Bawa was reportedly killed while travelling from Bandawa to Karim Lamido.

Local security sources told NAN that a Fulani community leader, Ardo Baka, reported that six herders were missing following the incident.

A combined security team comprising the military, police, vigilantes and local hunters has been deployed to the area to restore calm.

Community leaders have also commenced peace talks to prevent further escalation.

In a related development, bandits attacked Dogon Ruwa village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State on May 12.

The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, shot and killed a resident, Alhaji Saini Haruna, before abducting two others, identified as Alhaji Maikasuwa and Muhammadu Snu.

Security operatives, including the military, police and the Department of State Services (DSS), have been mobilised to the area.

The deceased has been buried according to Islamic rites after the family declined an autopsy.

Security agencies say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to rescue the abducted persons and arrest the perpetrators.
