Troops Repel BH/ISWAP Night Attack in New Marte, Neutralize Several Terrorists

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated night attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (BH/ISWAP) terrorists on New Marte in Borno State.

The fierce land and air engagement, which began at about 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, resulted in the neutralization of several insurgents as troops successfully thwarted the assault.

Military sources confirmed the joint response from ground forces and the Nigerian Air Force overwhelmed the attackers after a protracted exchange of fire.

“Though the troops demonstrated gallantry and operational effectiveness, two personnel paid the supreme price during the encounter,” the source stated.

It was also confirmed that troops are currently in hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, with clearance operations ongoing in the general area.

The military authorities have assured that further updates will be provided as the operation progresses.

New Marte, a strategic town in northern Borno, has witnessed repeated attacks by insurgent groups attempting to establish presence in the area.
