Zulum Pledges N5 Million at Book Launch Honouring VP Kashim Shettima

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has pledged the sum of ₦5 million in support of a newly launched book titled “Waving With Kashim Shettima: From Sunlight to Sunset” written by Comrade Mukhtar Dogo.

The event, held yesterday in Maiduguri, brought together youth leaders, government officials, academics, and media professionals to honour the legacy of Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima. Governor Zulum, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Information, Hon. Dogo M. Shettima, made the pledge on behalf of the Borno State Government.

Delivering the governor’s goodwill message, Hon. Shettima praised the Vice President’s leadership qualities, resilience, and commitment to national development. He also highlighted Senator Shettima’s contributions as a former governor of Borno State and his current role in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The Vice President’s leadership is humble, strategic, and people-centred. He continues to inspire a generation of young Nigerians, especially in Borno, where his mentorship has created a wave of rising leaders,” he stated.

The event began with an introduction by the Master of Ceremony, who outlined the purpose and significance of the book, followed by a keynote address by veteran journalist Mohammed Ibrahim Umar of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Umar gave a detailed summary of the book’s content and themes.

Book reviewer and historian Sayyadi Abdulhamid Al-Gazali, CEO of Yerwa Express News, provided an in-depth chapter-by-chapter review, describing the work as an important contribution to Nigeria’s political history and urging more young writers to document contemporary leaders.

Comr. Mahmud Muhammad, Personal Assistant to the Vice President, commended the author and pledged ₦1 million in support of the publication. He described the book as “more than a biography — a pathway to understanding a man whose journey has become part of Nigeria’s national story.”

Dr. Usman Ali Busuguma, Regional Director of NISELT, spoke on behalf of the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Barr. Mustapha Ali Busuguma. He highlighted the mentorship values instilled by Senator Shettima and the importance of nurturing youth potential through leadership.

The author, Comr. Mukhtar Dogo, during his address, described the book as a “rare and compelling portrait” of Vice President Shettima — a leader whose influence has spanned the troubled Northeast to the corridors of power in Aso Rock.

He added, “The narrative reflects admiration, inspiration, and political awakening. Senator Shettima represents a blend of intellect, service, and vision that resonates deeply with Nigerians seeking leadership with purpose.”

At the climax of the event, the book was officially unveiled by Hon. Dogo M. Shettima, standing in for Hon. Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Senior Technical Assistant to the Governor on Print and Digital Media.

Several other dignitaries at the event made pledges in support of the book project, which aims to document and inspire a deeper understanding of one of Nigeria’s most influential contemporary leaders.
