
Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the constitution of a high-level Task Force for the Revitalization of Basic Education as part of efforts to strengthen the sub-sector and enhance learning outcomes across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who announced the governor’s approval in a statement on Saturday, said the Task Force comprises seasoned educationists and administrators.
He said the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aishatu Maigari, would serve as Chairperson, while members include Dr. Hamid Bobboyi (OON), Mr. Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, Engr. Dr. Muhammad Nuru Yakubu (OON), and Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe.
According to the statement, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Esrom Toro Jokthan, will serve as Secretary, while the Permanent Secretary, Special Services and Political, is to act as Assistant Secretary.
Njodi explained that the Task Force was mandated to conduct a holistic assessment and evaluation of the current state of basic education in the state and to develop actionable strategies and reforms to improve efficiency, accessibility, and quality in primary and junior secondary education.
He said the move aligns with Yahaya’s commitment to repositioning the education sector as a cornerstone of human capital development in Gombe.
“The establishment of this Task Force underscores the governor’s determination to tackle challenges in the education sector, improve teaching and learning conditions, and ensure that every child in Gombe State has access to functional and inclusive basic education,” the SSG said.
The appointments, according to the statement, take immediate effect.
