The Adamawa State Executive Council (SEC), in its first meeting of 2024, approved the contract for supplying fertilizer for the 2024 farming season.
The Council also approved variations for contracts involving furniture supply in junior and senior secondary public schools across the state and road construction in the state capital.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presided over the meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the Council Chambers in Government House, Yola.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Neido Kofolto Geoffrey, disclosed that the EXCO deliberated on and approved the sum of N456,318,000 for the supply of fertilizer for the 2024 farming season.
She stated that Governor Fintiri’s administration, recognizing the passion of Adamawa people for farming, approved the fertilizer supply to boost farming activities.
The Commissioner also stated that the EXCO received a memo for a variation from the Ministry of Education for the supply of furniture to junior and senior secondary schools in Adamawa State.
Due to the hike in material prices in the market, the EXCO ratified and approved the variation, increasing the supply cost from the initial approved sum of N1,742,774,000 to N1,892,000,778.
According to Hon. Kofolto, the Adamawa Executive Council also approved a variation of N23,777,058.50, bringing the revised cost to N224,079,672 for the construction of road networks in Yola abattoir by MSATB Barak Service Limited. She disclosed that the work is nearing 85% completion.
The EXCO also approved the upgrade of some markets and the implementation of erosion flood controls in some local markets in Adamawa State. The contract for the construction and upgrade of these markets and flood control measures rose from N902,636,006.70 to N1,504,393,343.60.
