Adamawa Women Threaten Legal Action to Pressure Fintiri Over 2027 Senate Bid

A coalition of women from three local government areas in Adamawa North Senatorial District has called on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to contest the 2027 Senate election, insisting that his leadership should continue at the federal level after completing his tenure as governor.

The women, who addressed journalists during a meeting in Yola, expressed strong support for the governor, stating that they believe he is best suited to represent the district at the National Assembly of Nigeria.

They warned that failure by the governor to heed their call could lead to legal action aimed at compelling him to contest the senatorial seat in 2027.

According to the group, Governor Fintiri’s leadership record and development efforts in Adamawa State have earned him the confidence of women across the northern zone, making him their preferred candidate for the Senate.

The women also outlined possible next steps should the governor decline their request, including mobilising wider support across communities and exploring legal options to ensure what they described as continued representation of their interests at the national level.

They emphasised that their demand reflects the collective interest of women in the district who want experienced leadership to represent them at the federal level after the governor completes his tenure.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Governor Fintiri or his aides regarding the demand.
