The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has initiated a three-day industrial action to emphasize its demands, following the ongoing seven-day warning strike by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) which commenced earlier this week.
Comrade Yusuf Dalhatu Bulus, the Chairman of NAAT at the University of Maiduguri, announced this decision during a press briefing on Wednesday.
He highlighted that in line with resolutions from the NAAT Virtual conference held on March 13, 2024, all laboratories and the ICT center at the university have been closed.
Bulus emphasized the impact of the strike, stating, “All laboratories are closed, practical sessions, project works, and research activities are suspended until further notice.”
The strike action is set to persist for three days unless the government addresses the grievances raised by the association, which include the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding earned allowances, and the issuance of circulars for career progression for CONTISS 14 and 15.
Additional demands put forward by Bulus encompass the modernization of outdated equipment, enhancement of the deteriorating infrastructure in university laboratories, and a review of the 2009 agreement terms.
