Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State at the Government House, amid ongoing political consultations linked to developments within the opposition.
Sources said the visit by the APC chairman and Kano governor was a private engagement, as no official press briefing or media interaction followed the closed-door meeting.
Observers described the visit as politically significant, considering the calibre of the personalities involved and the evolving political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, Mohammed has hinted at a possible political realignment, signalling readiness to consider the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid the protracted crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development followed a separate closed-door meeting at the Presidential Lodge, Bauchi, with a high-powered ADC delegation led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.
Speaking during the meeting, Mohammed disclosed that reconciliation efforts within the PDP at the national level had yet to produce tangible results, prompting fresh considerations about the future political direction of his political bloc.
He revealed that strategic committees had been constituted in Abuja and Bauchi to assess available political options, including possible alignment with alternative platforms.
According to the governor, remaining in a political space where his group feels sidelined is no longer sustainable, hence the need for urgent repositioning within a viable opposition structure.
While describing the ADC as a “strong and attractive option,” Mohammed said consultations were still ongoing and assured that any eventual decision would be guided by stakeholder engagement and careful deliberation.
Earlier, Lawal said the ADC delegation was mandated by the party’s national leadership to formally engage Mohammed and explore the possibility of his joining the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He commended the governor’s political influence, noting that his defection could strengthen the ADC’s national outlook.
Lawal also stressed the need for opposition unity, warning that fragmentation among political actors could undermine democratic stability and national progress.
