Bala launches agri policy, flags off 2026 dry season farming

Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on Monday inaugurated the 2026 Dry Season Farming Programme in Akuyam, Misau Local Government Area, unveiling a comprehensive Agricultural Policy Blueprint to reposition the sector for sustainable growth.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohammed said the policy roadmap was designed to transform agriculture in the state by strengthening the entire value chain, from cultivation and processing to marketing.

He explained that the initiative was carefully structured to boost food security, create employment opportunities and accelerate rural development across Bauchi State.

According to him, agriculture remains central to his administration’s economic diversification drive and long-term development agenda.

The governor disclosed that plans were underway for the production and sale of fertilisers and other farming inputs at subsidised rates to reduce production costs and improve yields.

Mohammed added that the state government was determined to position Bauchi as a fertiliser production hub and a strategic contributor to Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

He also cautioned traditional institutions against indiscriminate allocation of grazing and farming reserves, stressing the need to protect designated agricultural lands to sustain long-term growth and prevent conflicts.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Iliyasu Gital, assured farmers of prompt distribution of inputs, noting that the state government had put measures in place to ensure a seamless and productive 2026 dry season farming exercise.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting farmers with the necessary tools and resources to enhance output and livelihoods.

The event drew farmers, community leaders and government officials from across the state.
