    Bala Orders Probe into Lanzai Communal Clash, Visits Victims

    Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has ordered an investigation into the recent communal clash between Lanzai and Dosho communities in Darazo Local Government Area, which resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

    The governor gave the directive during a condolence visit to the affected Lanzai Community, where he sympathised with victims and assessed the situation firsthand.

    Accompanied by heads of security agencies and senior government officials, Mohammed reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the area.

    Addressing community members, the governor expressed sadness over the incident, describing the violence as unfortunate and disturbing.

    He urged residents to reject violence and embrace dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding as pathways to lasting peace and development.

    Mohammed also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward promoting harmony and preventing future conflicts.

    According to him, local leaders have a critical role in identifying and addressing emerging tensions before they escalate into violence.

    The governor announced the constitution of a committee to investigate both the immediate and remote causes of the clash.

    He warned that individuals found culpable of instigating or participating in the violence would be prosecuted, regardless of their status or influence.

    Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, fairness and the rule of law, stressing that those responsible for the crisis would be held accountable.

    He also announced the provision of relief materials to families affected by the clash to support their recovery and ease their hardship.

    The governor assured residents that the state government would continue to work closely with security agencies and community stakeholders to restore normalcy and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

    Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu-Omolori, underscored the importance of stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

    Aliyu-Omolori said proactive community engagement and timely intelligence sharing remained essential for preventing conflicts and enhancing security.

    He assured residents that security operatives had restored calm in the affected communities and would maintain their presence until peace was fully consolidated.

    Bala Mohammed Picks APM Senate Nomination Form

    Governor Bala Mohammed has picked the nomination form to contest for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement ahead of the forthcoming elections.

    Mohammed picked the form during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting attended by key stakeholders and members of the party leadership.

    The meeting was presided over by the National Chairman of the party, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle.

    Speaking at the meeting, Mohammed said the country’s political landscape had become increasingly difficult due to what he described as undemocratic practices and political intimidation.

    According to him, the situation had made genuine political participation and survival difficult for many progressive leaders and political movements.

    The governor said that after extensive consultations with political associates, stakeholders and supporters across the country, the APM emerged as the political platform that aligned with their collective aspirations.

    He noted that the party shared similar values with his political philosophy, particularly in the areas of good governance, internal democracy, inclusiveness, justice and respect for the rule of law.

    Mohammed added that the decision to join the APM was driven by conviction and the desire to strengthen democratic culture in the country.

    He further disclosed that several political office holders and stakeholders who previously operated under the PDP structure in Bauchi State had also joined the movement.

    According to him, the development includes members of the National Assembly, Bauchi State House of Assembly lawmakers, local government chairmen, commissioners, ward executives, party officials and grassroots supporters.

    Mohammed assured the party leadership of their readiness to contribute resources, political support and experience toward the growth of the party at all levels.

    The NEC meeting also provided the governor an opportunity to formally interact with members of the party’s leadership structure following his recent defection to the APM.

    The governor said the decision followed an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held behind closed doors, adding that several PDP members loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led executives had also joined him in the move.

    Until his defection, Mohammed served as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, a position that placed him among the party’s top-ranking leaders.

    Political observers say the development may alter the balance of power within Bauchi State and have wider implications for opposition politics ahead of future elections.

    Bala Reaffirms Education Drive as SAZU Graduates 11,000 Students

    Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has reiterated his administration’s commitment to education, describing it as the cornerstone of sustainable development and societal transformation.

    Mohammed made this known at the combined 8th, 9th and 10th convocation ceremony of Sa’adu Zungur University held at Gadau.

    The governor said his administration had committed more than ₦58 billion to higher education, with over ₦40 billion allocated to capital development projects across tertiary institutions in the state.

    According to him, the investments have led to massive infrastructural expansion, including the construction of modern classrooms, student hostels, laboratories, ICT centres and staff quarters.

    He noted that at Sa’adu Zungur University, the government executed targeted interventions such as the provision of new academic facilities, improved accommodation and strengthened campus security.

    Mohammed also stressed the administration’s resolve to improve academic standards, promote research and safeguard institutional autonomy.

    He cautioned students against social vices such as drug abuse and sexual harassment, urging them to uphold discipline and integrity within the academic environment.

    The governor further highlighted strategic collaborations with organisations such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, aimed at strengthening research capacity and advancing digital innovation.

    The convocation ceremony featured the graduation of over 11,000 undergraduate students and 443 postgraduate students across three academic sessions.

    Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Fatima Tahir, said the institution had recorded steady academic progress, including the successful accreditation of 17 programmes by the National Universities Commission.

    Tahir commended the governor for his sustained support, noting that it had significantly improved teaching, learning and research within the university.

    Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, described the convocation as evidence of the governor’s commitment to educational development and appreciated development partners for their support.

    Also speaking, the Chancellor of the university and Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, expressed satisfaction with the institution’s progress and urged graduates to uphold values of excellence and responsibility.

    Gov Bala Declares Bauchi Forests Cleared of Bandits

    Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared that forests across the state have been cleared of bandits following sustained security operations by security agencies.

    Mohammed made the declaration on Saturday during the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar held at the Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu Square in Bauchi.

    He said intensified joint operations by the Nigerian military and other security agencies forced criminal groups out of their hideouts, particularly in the Alkaleri axis, which had witnessed repeated attacks in recent weeks.

    The governor’s remarks followed recent attacks on communities such as Mansur and Gwana in Alkaleri Local Government Area that heightened security concerns among residents.

    “Today, I can confidently say that there are no bandits harbouring in any forest in Bauchi State. Our forests have been cleared through decisive military action and improved intelligence gathering,” he said.

    Mohammed commended the Armed Forces and other security agencies for stabilising affected areas and restoring calm in Alkaleri and neighbouring communities.

    He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and useful information to sustain the progress achieved.

    The governor also used the occasion to seek forgiveness from the people of the state as his administration approaches the end of its second term next year.

    “As my tenure gradually comes to an end, I find it necessary to seek your forgiveness for any wrongs, knowing fully that no human is perfect,” he said.

    Mohammed assured citizens that his administration would continue to execute ongoing projects in key sectors, including healthcare, education and road infrastructure, until the end of his tenure.

    He added that the state government would sustain collaboration with traditional institutions, describing the partnership as vital for peace, security and social harmony in Bauchi State.

    The delegation was led by Dr. Chuma Ezedinma of the African Development Bank alongside members of the SAPZ team.

    Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration with the Bauchi State Government to ensure the successful implementation of the Agro-Industrial Processing Zones initiative.

    The programme, funded by the African Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and other development partners, is expected to attract billions of dollars in investments across benefiting states in Nigeria.

    Speaking during the visit, Ezedinma said the team was in Bauchi on a pre-appraisal mission to assess the state’s readiness for the project.

    The Bauchi State Government has approved a 100 per cent salary increase for doctors and other healthcare workers across the state, in a move aimed at improving welfare, retaining skilled personnel and strengthening healthcare delivery.

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Sani Dambam, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Bauchi.

    According to the commissioner, the approval followed the consideration of recommendations submitted by a special committee constituted to assess the financial implications of a new scheme of service for healthcare workers in the state.

    Dambam described the decision as one of the most significant welfare packages ever approved for the health sector in Bauchi, noting that it represents a comprehensive 100 per cent review of the existing salary structure.

    “The decision was driven by the need to retain skilled medical personnel and improve healthcare delivery across the state,” he said.

    As part of the welfare package, the state government also approved the payment of peculiar allowances, including outside-posting allowances, to encourage doctors and other health workers to accept and remain in postings outside major urban centres.

    He added that healthcare workers under the State Primary Healthcare Development Board would also benefit from the new allowances, thereby addressing long-standing disparities in welfare benefits within the sector.

    The commissioner further revealed that the council approved the clearance of outstanding promotion arrears for healthcare workers, with no fewer than 2,000 workers expected to benefit from the exercise.

    To further boost morale and improve living conditions, Dambam said the government approved access to car and housing loans for doctors and healthcare workers, aimed at easing their financial burden.

    He also disclosed that biometric and verification systems would be introduced across health facilities in the state as part of accountability measures to ensure transparency and effective service delivery.

    The latest approval is expected to enhance staff motivation, reduce brain drain and significantly improve the quality of healthcare services available to residents of Bauchi State.

    Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has relieved the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, of her appointment.

    This was made known in an official statement issued on Monday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

    According to the statement, the decision forms part of a minor reshuffle within the Bauchi State Executive Council aimed at enhancing governance and administrative efficiency.

    “In a move to reposition the State Executive Council for better service delivery, His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed, has approved a minor cabinet adjustment. Consequently, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, has been relieved of her duties with immediate effect,” Gidado stated.

    No official reason was given for her removal, and it remains unclear whether a replacement has been nominated or if the ministry will operate under an acting capacity for the time being.

    Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko had been serving as a member of the executive council since the early days of Governor Bala Mohammed’s current administration, overseeing issues relating to women’s welfare and child development across the state.

    Political observers in Bauchi view the dismissal as part of ongoing internal restructuring within the state cabinet as the administration moves to consolidate efforts ahead of midterm performance reviews.

    Sun said the company was ready to employ local workers, build schools and healthcare facilities, as well as establish water and gas plants to support the state’s development agenda.

    He explained that plans were underway to set up an industrial park in Bauchi, and solicited the cooperation of the state government to facilitate the project.

    Responding, Mohammed said the visit was in line with his administration’s resolve to attract meaningful investments into Bauchi.

    He stressed that the state was endowed with natural and mineral resources, adding that his government was determined to harness them for sustainable socio-economic growth.

    The governor assured the Chinese firm of his administration’s full support to ensure the successful take-off of their operations.

    Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has officially launched the 2025 farming season with a bold package of agricultural reforms aimed at improving food security, empowering farmers, and positioning the state as a major food-producing hub in Nigeria.

    The launch ceremony, which took place on Saturday, June 28, in Gajin Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area, attracted dignitaries from within and outside the state, including traditional rulers, government officials, and representatives of farmers’ associations.

    Governor Mohammed, in his address, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making agriculture the engine of economic growth and rural development. He announced the commencement of subsidized fertilizer sales, fixing the price of NPK 20:10:10 at N20,000 per bag, a significant reduction aimed at making inputs affordable for farmers.

    To ensure availability, he noted that sufficient quantities had already been produced through the Bauchi State Fertilizer Blending Plant to meet demand across the 20 local government areas.

    In a further boost to mechanized farming, the governor disclosed plans to distribute tractors to all LGAs, stating that access to modern equipment would ease the burden on farmers and increase output.

    Governor Mohammed also revealed that 1,000 youths trained in various agricultural skills would be given financial support to start their own farming ventures. Additionally, he approved two days of farming leave per week for civil servants on Grade Level 12 and below, to encourage broader participation in farming activities.

    He warned against any attempt to divert fertilizers or inputs meant for genuine farmers, stressing that accountability and fair distribution were critical to the success of the programme.

    The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Bauchi, Yusuf Sambo, praised the governor’s commitment to agricultural development, assuring of the association’s full support.

    Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture, represented by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing inputs and support services for farmers since 2019.

    In a goodwill message, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, expressed the continued support of the traditional institution for the state’s agricultural revolution.

    According to Gidado, the appointments are part of Governor Mohammed’s ongoing efforts to broaden participation in governance and reflect the diversity of the state’s population. He noted that the move aims to boost service delivery and inject fresh energy into the administration.

    The newly appointed aides comprise 63 Personal Assistants, 60 Senior Special Assistants, 38 Special Assistants on Political and Community Relations, five Principal Special Assistants on Political and Community Relations, one Principal Special Assistant on Pension Matters, and one Senior Special Assistant on Labour Matters.

    Gidado explained that the appointees include former political office holders at national, state, and local government levels. They were selected based on merit, experience, political involvement, and leadership potential.

    Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has presented N4 million cash to four outstanding Bauchi indegene candidates that scored highest in the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, examination.

    Mr Mohammed, who was represented by Yehuza Adamu, the state Head of Civil Service, disclosed this during the presentation of the cash gift to the candidates in Bauchi on Tuesday.

    He said said that the gesture was to encourage others to work hard to excell in their academic pursuits.

    The governor explained that each student would be given the sum of N1 million, saying that it would help in securing admissions into their various choice of higher institutions.

    “The gesture has shown the commitment of the state government in investing in human capital development.

    “Human capital development is the antidote for every development and If you want to destroy a generation, a country or a nation, just destroy their education system and that’s all. No need to carry a gun or any ammunition.

    “Once the people are not educated, they are already destroyed and this is why the government has been working round the clock to see that education is not only given the attention but also, has been given the greatest priority.

    “If somebody can sit in Bauchi state and score 348, that tells you that our education is working and if these four can do it, it means we have so many others that have the potential to do it also,” he said.

    According to him, I’m requesting for the staff of the Ministry of Education to go back and see how we can reciprocate what the governor is doing by bringing more of these students to the front burner so that tomorrow, we will have like 40 of Bauchi indigenes that scored over 300 in JAMB.

    He congratulated the students, their parents and urged all the students of Bauchi state origin to sit up and aspire to surpass the awardees.

    Also speaking, Ali Babayo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, lauded the governor for creating an enabling environment for the implementation of all the education policies in the state.

    “The journey started some months ago when we presented our request to the JAMB office to give us the names of four outstanding students of Bauchi state indigenes that performed wonderfully in the 2024 examination.

    “They honoured our request and submitted to us the names of the four students who scored the highest mark in the JAMB examination.

    “This gesture is to encourage the students and set a good example for others to emulate, especially those who are about to sit for the same examination,” he said.

    He named the students as Kawthar Shehu who had the highest score of 348, Geoffrey Yakubu with 347, Abdullahi Garba, 347 and Magaji Umar with 333.

    In a vote of thanks on behalf of the parents of the students, Ali Garba, appreciated the state government for the kind gesture and said that the money would help them in their academic endeavours in their various high institutions.

    The Bauchi State Government has dismissed a report published by The Guardian alleging that N400 million was allocated for the purchase of six computers for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), describing it as “misleading and baseless.”

    In a statement issued on Friday, the Governor’s New Media Aide, Lawal Muazu Bauchi, clarified that the actual allocation was N250 million, earmarked for IT infrastructure upgrades across multiple government institutions.

    “The claim that N400 million was allocated for six computers is nothing but a pedestrian and intellectually bankrupt propaganda effort. The N250 million budgeted is for the procurement of approximately 150 computers and related IT infrastructure for various agencies, including BASEPA, the Hajj Commission, Primary Healthcare Service, select secondary schools, and other key institutions,” the statement read.

    The government explained that the initiative is part of its commitment to modernizing state institutions and advancing digital transformation. It emphasized that the misrepresentation of facts was a deliberate effort by detractors to tarnish the reputation of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration.

    “The narrative is a lie concocted by detractors rattled by the administration’s developmental achievements. Bauchi State remains committed to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and initiatives that improve citizens’ lives,” the statement added.

    The government urged the public to disregard the report and reiterated its openness to constructive dialogue to foster transparency and accountability.

    Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving girls’ education in the state.

    Speaking at the Traditional and Religious Leaders Conference on Improving Girls’ Education in the North-East, Mohammed highlighted key initiatives taken under his leadership to enhance educational access for girls. 

    The conference, organized by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project—a World Bank-assisted program in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Bauchi State Government—focused on strategies to address challenges facing girls’ education in the insurgency-affected region. 

    Governor Bala noted that his administration has constructed over 5,000 classroom blocks and renovated several others to accommodate the increasing number of students.

    He, however, emphasized the vital role traditional and religious leaders play in encouraging school enrollment, retention, and completion, particularly among girls. 

    Mohammed also mentioned the establishment of the Second Chance School to provide alternative learning opportunities for girls who may have dropped out of formal education.

    He commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and other leaders for their continued support in tackling the issue of out-of-school children. 

    On his part, the representative of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Bukar Bukarbe described the conference as timely and in alignment with federal efforts to advance girls’ education nationwide.

    He lauded Governor Bala for his impactful contributions to the cause. 

    The Sultan of Sokoto emphasized the importance of collective support from traditional leaders, religious figures, and community members in ensuring the success of girls’ education initiatives. He praised Governor Bala’s proactive approach in addressing educational challenges in Bauchi State. 

    Amina Buba Haruna, National Coordinator of the AGILE Project, underscored the program’s goal of raising awareness about the significance of girls’ education in the insurgency-affected North-East.

    She commended the Bauchi State Government for its unwavering support. 

    The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ali Babayo, affirmed that the Bala Mohammed-led administration remains steadfast in its efforts to empower girls through education, calling for sustained support from stakeholders.
