The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to establish the Sayawa Chiefdom, with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, within six months.
Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed this on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Bauchi, where he briefed participants on the government’s position regarding the recommendations of the fact-finding committee on the chiefdom’s establishment.
Mohammed revealed that the paramount ruler of the chiefdom, to be known as the “Gunzar,” would be appointed based on specific qualifications and health requirements, as recommended in the committee’s report.
As part of the process, the government stated that non-Sayawa communities within the proposed chiefdom would have the option to decide whether to remain part of it or not. This decision will be made through a referendum to be conducted by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC).
While calling on leaders from the affected communities to educate their people on the government’s decision and the processes that would follow, Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and inclusive resolution of the matter.
