Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has donated over N70 million to families of victims affected by recent banditry and kidnapping incidents in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The governor made the announcement on Thursday during a condolence visit to his hometown, Duguri, where he met with stakeholders and residents from Duguri and Gwana districts.
Mohammed, visibly moved by the impact of the attacks, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated his commitment to improving the security situation in the area.
He commended the efforts of security agencies, local vigilantes, and community members in resisting criminal elements and maintaining vigilance.
The governor disclosed that he had contacted the Office of the National Security Adviser for federal support to strengthen security operations in Bauchi State, with assurances of cooperation already received.
To ensure transparent distribution of the funds, Mohammed announced the constitution of a committee headed by the Executive Chairman of Alkaleri LGA, alongside other individuals of proven integrity.
He condemned the activities of informants aiding bandits and urged traditional rulers to assist in identifying such individuals within their communities.
In a bid to strengthen local security architecture, Mohammed revealed that the state would recruit 2,100 vigilantes to support conventional security forces in combating crime.
Representatives from the Bauchi State Police Command, state hunters, and traditional institutions lauded the governor’s intervention and pledged continued support for government-led security initiatives.
