Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has come under intense public criticism following a vulgar tirade on Twitter against a user who accused him of corruption and abuse of power.
The outburst, which has since gone viral, occurred after a Twitter user identified as Malaika alleged that Shamsuddeen was leveraging his father’s position for personal enrichment and political advantage.
Reacting through his verified handle, @shamsudeen_bala, the governor’s son responded with offensive language, making derogatory comments about Malaika’s mother and family background.
“Are you sick in the head?!… If that’s the case, I allege your mother is a whore and you are a bastard child, and that also makes it true,” Shamsuddeen tweeted in part.
The remark has triggered widespread condemnation from social media users and political observers, many of whom have called on the governor to publicly address his son’s behaviour.
Shamsuddeen’s controversial public conduct has long drawn criticism, with reports of strained family relations and previous altercations with the media and civil society.
In a recent development, his name surfaced in the controversial arrest of a lecturer, Dr Abubakar Ahmad, who was allegedly detained after sharing a video of Shamsuddeen dancing with his wife. The incident reportedly drew internal backlash within the governor’s family.
Activist Omoyele Sowore had previously raised allegations linking Shamsuddeen and the First Lady to questionable land allocations and contract dealings. While no official probe has been announced, the issues have continued to generate public concern.
Reacting to the latest controversy, a relative of the governor, Mutawakkil Adamu Mohammed, was quoted as saying, “Shamsu has scandalised our entire family.”
The incident has reignited debates about the accountability of public officials’ family members and the ethical standards expected of individuals close to positions of power.
