The Bauchi State Government has fired back at recent comments made by Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, describing his remarks as “erratic, divisive, and baseless.”
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Governor Bala Mohammed criticized Wike’s alleged “disjointed tirade” during a media chat, accusing him of betraying the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that nurtured his political rise.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP, yet he now gleefully undermines the foundation that nurtured him,” the statement read.
Responding to Wike’s claim of not being friends with Governor Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi government dismissed the assertion as “irrelevant and puerile,” emphasizing that governance is built on competence, vision, and results—not personal friendships.
Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, highlighted his administration’s achievements in Bauchi State and his role in strengthening the PDP as a formidable opposition party, contrasting this with Wike’s alleged “double game” of aligning with the ruling APC while claiming PDP membership.
The statement accused Wike of being a “transactional politician” whose alliances are driven by personal ambition. It also criticized his tenure as FCT Minister, labeling it a “spectacle of media insults” rather than governance.
“Instead of using his platform to unite and inspire, Wike has reduced public service to a theater of absurdity, alienating stakeholders and creating unnecessary tensions,” it added.
The statement concluded by praising Governor Mohammed’s leadership and principled stance on national issues, including his opposition to controversial tax reforms. It contrasted his approach with Wike’s “opportunistic” behavior, urging Nigerians to focus on leaders committed to national progress.
Wike is yet to respond to these allegations.
