The Bauchi government has announced plans for the upgrade of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) from its present 16,000 to 30,000 seats.
Mohammed Salis, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development stated this at a news conference on Monday in Bauchi.
He said the remodeling and upgrading of the sporting facilitiy would be executed through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
“This is in line with the Governor Bala Mohammed’s vision to revamp sporting facilities, including the dilapidated olympic-size swimming pool, games village, and multipurpose indoor sports hall.
“This partnership will not only provide a befitting venue for sports enthusiasts but also create opportunities for economic growth and development of the state,” he said.
Mr Salis said the modern sporting facilities would enhance the performance of athletes, attract national and international competitions as well as promote tourism.
The project, he said, would provide a conducive environment for athletes to train and compete, increasing their chances of success at national and international levels.
“Moreover, the modern facilities will attract investors, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth,” he said.
