Damaturu Specialist Hospital Gets O&G Training Approval

The West African College of Surgeons has granted approval for the Specialist Hospital Damaturu to train Junior and Senior Resident Doctors in Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G).

In a letter signed by Secretary General, Prof. Philip Mshelbwala, the College said the hospital met requirements following the report of its visitation panel. The approval covers the training of 34 junior resident doctors for membership and 17 senior residents for fellowship programmes.

This marks another stride for Yobe State in expanding its medical training capacity. In a related development, the West African College of Physicians previously accredited the Department of Community Medicine at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for postgraduate residency, enabling doctors to receive consultant-level training within the state.

The administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni continues to invest in manpower development and healthcare access, with recent years witnessing accreditation of new specialties, including radiology, at the teaching hospital.

Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, stated that efforts to make healthcare more accessible and affordable in Yobe are ongoing.
