El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club faced a harrowing ordeal Friday evening when their team bus was ambushed by armed robbers on the Jos-Bauchi road.
The team, en route for a league fixture, was intercepted by gunmen who forced the bus to a halt, firing shots into the air. The robbers reportedly demanded cash and valuables, leaving several players injured during the attack. Two players sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical treatment, though no fatalities were reported.
One player described the incident as traumatic, recounting how the robbers emerged from the bushes and ordered everyone to comply.
The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) condemned the attack, urging authorities to enhance security for teams traveling through high-risk areas. Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation and stepped up patrols on the highway.
