The Bauchi State Government has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare services in the state, as Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Ministry of Health.
The MOU, signed at the Government House on Monday in Bauchi, formalizes the handover of General Hospital Misau to be upgraded into a Federal Medical Center.
Speaking at the event, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, commended Governor Mohammed for his unwavering support in facilitating the transformation.
Prof. Pate highlighted the numerous benefits that will accompany the upgrade, particularly the provision of improved healthcare services to the people of Bauchi State.
He called on the state government to continue its support to ensure the sustained success of this initiative.
In his response, Governor Mohammed expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Health for their continued interventions in the state’s health sector.
Mohammed reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery and welcomed the benefits the new Federal Medical Center will bring to the region.
Additionally, the Bauchi State Government launched an emergency ambulance service aimed at assisting individuals with urgent health needs, particularly those who are unable to afford healthcare.
The launch of this service is part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen the health sector and ensure that healthcare is accessible to all.
Prof. Pate emphasized the importance of the ambulance service in promoting sustainable health development, noting that health is indeed wealth.
The upgrade of General Hospital Misau follows the federal authorities’ decision to move the Federal Medical Center designation from Azare to Misau, underscoring the importance of this region in the federal healthcare network.
