Finance Minister Commends Governor Bala for Opening Bauchi to Business

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Wale Edun, has lauded Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for transforming Bauchi State into a business-friendly environment through various developmental projects.

Dr. Edun made this remark during a courtesy visit to the Governor on Monday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Bauchi.

The visit was part of the activities for the National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) conference, which the state is hosting this year.

Speaking, Dr. Edun emphasized that the presence of top financial experts in Bauchi provides a unique platform to deliberate on pressing financial and macroeconomic issues affecting Nigeria.

He assured the gathering of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to resolving the nation’s economic challenges.

According to Edu, the active support of governors, who hold strategic roles in fostering economic development, is critical to achieving sustainable growth.

The Finance Minister expressed appreciation to Governor Bala for hosting the NACOFED meeting, noting that such events are instrumental in attracting investors and boosting the state’s economy.

Responding, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed thanked the Federal Government for selecting Bauchi State as the host of the prestigious event.

Mohammed acknowledged his role as a vocal critic of federal policies but commended Dr. Wale Edun’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s economy, particularly in addressing macroeconomic challenges that directly impact ordinary citizens.

Governor Bala, however, highlighted the paradox of Nigeria being one of the top oil-producing nations while many of its citizens face significant hardship. He urged the Federal Government to devise strategies to optimize the oil and gas sector for the benefit of the masses.

While further calling for continued collaboration, inclusion, and partnerships among stakeholders to ensure transparency, equity, and justice, Mohammed stressed the need for collective accountability to drive rapid socioeconomic growth and development in the country.

The NACOFED 2024 meeting in Bauchi is expected to provide actionable insights into Nigeria’s financial future and enhance cooperation between federal and state governments.
