Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has commended the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) for its role in maintaining order on the state’s roads.
Speaking on Monday at a ceremony to hand over operational equipment to the agency, Mohammed expressed satisfaction with BAROTA’s progress in clearing road obstructions and reducing encroachments.
He praised the dedication of BAROTA personnel despite their limited numbers and lauded their approach of educating and persuading motorists and traders rather than resorting to force.
The governor noted that the agency’s efforts had significantly improved movement for commuters and business owners affected by road congestion.
He, however, emphasized the need for continued action to keep roads obstruction-free and assured that his administration would sustain support for the agency in enforcing order and discipline.
Mohammed also urged BAROTA to review its penalty system following complaints that fines were becoming excessively burdensome. He stressed the need to balance law enforcement with compassion to ensure that penalties remain fair and considerate.
