Governor Bala Advocates Economic Reforms, Regional Cooperation at Sahel Governance Forum

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has called for transparent economic governance, inclusive development, and enhanced regional cooperation at the ongoing Sahel Governance Forum in Banjul, The Gambia.

Governor Mohammed, who is attending the forum alongside Nigeria’s former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, emphasized the need for equitable management of the region’s natural resources and robust anti-corruption frameworks to strengthen economic growth and stability across Sahelian nations.

“The Sahel must invest in youth empowerment, joint infrastructure projects, and harmonized policies that can combat insecurity and stem the tide of illicit financial flows,” Mohammed said.

He stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts to address cross-border challenges and reiterated the importance of people-centered policies to drive sustainable development across the region.

The forum, which attracted stakeholders from ECOWAS, the United Nations, and other international organizations, focused on strategies for improved governance, peacebuilding, and resilience in the Sahel.

Governor Mohammed reaffirmed Bauchi State’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that promote transparency, economic inclusion, and long-term stability.
