
The Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN) has honoured Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State with the Lifetime of Distinguished Service to the Historical Society of Nigeria Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, cultural preservation, and the promotion of historical research in Nigeria.
The award was presented to the governor on October 16, 2025, at the Government House, Yola, during the Society’s official visit, which coincided with the 6th Congress of the Association of African Historians.
Speaking during the ceremony, the HSN delegation commended Governor Fintiri for his sustained commitment to advancing education, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting the teaching and study of history at all levels.
They noted that under his leadership, Adamawa State has witnessed significant progress in educational infrastructure, teacher development, and scholarly collaboration, which align with the Society’s objectives of promoting historical awareness and national identity.
In his remarks, Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude to the Historical Society of Nigeria for the recognition, describing the award as a motivation to continue supporting academic excellence and knowledge preservation.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the study of history and ensure that future generations understand and appreciate Nigeria’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
