Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers launched an assault on Kurmi village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, abducting five villagers while terrorizing residents with gunfire.
The attack, which occurred late Sunday night, saw armed assailants storming the village, creating chaos and fear among the inhabitants. Among those targeted were a nursing mother and former Councillor Abdulrahaman Jibrin Kurmi, who sustained gunshot wounds but managed to evade abduction.
Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, Ibrahim Zubairu Mato, described the attack as well-coordinated, with six attackers catching the villagers off guard. While the fate of the remaining victims, including the former councillor’s son, remains uncertain, efforts are underway to provide medical care for the injured.
Zubairu has taken steps to transfer the wounded to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, with the council covering all medical expenses. Despite attempts to reach the Bauchi State Police Command for comments on the abduction, there has been no response from the Command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakili, at the time of this report.
