The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while confirming that two candidates and a parent have been arrested over alleged result falsification using artificial intelligence (AI).
JAMB disclosed that results for 632,788 candidates who sat for the examination on Thursday, April 16, have been released and are available for viewing.
The examination, which began on Thursday, is being conducted in about 966 computer-based test (CBT) centres nationwide, with approximately 2.2 million candidates expected to participate.
In a statement issued on Friday night, JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said candidates could check their results through the official SMS channels.
“The results of candidates who sat the 2026 UTME on Thursday, April 16, have been released and are now available for viewing,” the statement said.
According to him, candidates are required to send UTMERESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration.
Benjamin noted that while candidates can view their results, printing of result slips is not yet available.
He warned candidates against manipulating SMS results to fabricate or alter scores, describing such actions as serious criminal offences.
“The Board treats such misconduct with the utmost gravity,” he said.
“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means. Any candidate found culpable will face the full consequences of the law.”
The board added that as the examination continues nationwide, additional batches of results will be released as they become available.
