Ndume Mourns Victims of Shani Boat Accident, Seeks Safety Measures

Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has commiserated with the people of Shani Local Government Area over a boat accident in Kubo ward which claimed three lives and left several others injured.

In a condolence message on Monday, Ndume sympathised with the Emir of Shani, Alhaji Muhammad Nasir Mailafiya, the bereaved families and the entire community.

He described the incident as a painful loss and prayed for Allah’s mercy on the departed souls as well as quick recovery for the injured.

The senator also assured his solidarity and support to the affected families, stressing the urgent need for preventive measures to avert future occurrences.

He disclosed plans to engage the Federal Government through the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for intervention, including culvert construction and improved safety standards for local water transportation.

Ndume recalled that in 2021, a similar mishap along the Hawul–Shani river claimed five lives, during which he personally visited Shani to condole with the victims’ families.

He reiterated his commitment to working with relevant authorities and community leaders to enhance water transport safety in the area.
