The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced investigation into the alleged assault of a young woman, identified as Hajara, by a young man in Zango area of Bauchi metropolis.
The incident was said to have occurred inside a residential building near a primary school, in the home of the victim’s friend who reportedly got married about two weeks ago.
According to the victim, the suspect allegedly lured her to the house under the pretext of assisting her friend with domestic work before subjecting her to severe beating with a cane, allegedly inflicting over 50 strokes.
Hajara alleged that the suspect is her former boyfriend and claimed the attack followed a disagreement over videos and photographs he had allegedly been posting on social media platforms, including TikTok.
She said her parents had earlier expressed displeasure over the matter, prompting her to publicly dissociate herself from the suspect, a development she claimed angered him and led to the assault.
Sources said the case has been reported to the Bauchi Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force and also referred to human rights authorities for further action.
Police authorities were yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report, but investigations are said to be ongoing.
