An All Progressives Congress, APC, aspirant for the Gashaka, Kurmi, Sardauna Federal Constituency, Fanuel D. Lawrence, has condemned what he described as long-standing neglect and poor political representation in the constituency since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
Speaking at the weekend during the commissioning of the APC secretariat in Gashaka Local Government Area, Lawrence urged residents to fully participate in the 2027 general elections and avoid political apathy.
“As a young person exposed to the wider world, I can say our constituency has not been fairly represented. The dividends of democracy have not reached us. Apart from lawmaking, lawmakers must lobby for projects, but if you look critically, no major project has been brought to our constituency,” he said.
He accused successive representatives of failing to attract meaningful federal projects, stressing that effective lobbying remained crucial to development.
Calling on eligible voters to take their civic responsibility seriously, Lawrence urged constituents to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards, and vote during the elections.
“Don’t just sit and say your vote doesn’t count. Be part of the process. Get your voter card, go out on election day, and make sure your voice counts,” he added.
Describing the state of the constituency as “sad,” he expressed optimism that collective effort could change its trajectory and “rewrite its story for good.”
Lawrence also applauded President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a democrat committed to justice, due process, and the rule of law.
A party chieftain, Alhaji Tanko Mohammed, echoed the aspirant’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of lobbying in politics and noting that the party was focused on preparations for the primary election.
APC state chairman, Barrister Tukur Ibrahim El-Sudi, commended Lawrence and assured party members that all aspirants would be given a level playing field ahead of the primaries.
