Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has appealed for compassion and understanding over the prolonged absence of the state’s Deputy Governor, who has been ill for several months.
In a statewide address on Monday, Kefas said the situation should not be treated as a political matter but as a human one, stressing the need for empathy, support and prayers for the ailing deputy.
He recalled his years of service in the Nigerian military, where the principle of esprit de corps taught him the value of standing together regardless of religion, ethnicity or background.
“Our Deputy Governor fell ill while serving Taraba State faithfully and on official duty. This is not a political matter—it is a human one,” he said.
Quoting both the Bible and the Qur’an, Kefas underscored the moral and religious duty to care for one another, adding that leadership in Taraba must be guided by humanity before politics.
He assured citizens that the state government had complied with constitutional provisions regarding the office but emphasised that laws must be complemented by morality and conscience.
“If, in the course of time and circumstances, the need arises to act according to the constitution regarding his position, I will not hesitate to do so in the right way. But for now, our duty is clear—to care, to support, and to let compassion lead us,” he said.
Kefas urged residents to continue to pray for the Deputy Governor’s recovery and to support his family during the period.
