Taraba Governor Celebrates 25 Years of Democracy, Hails Sacrifices of Patriots

In a speech marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, acknowledged the sacrifices of patriots, heroes, and statesmen who have contributed to the country’s democratic journey.

The Governor noted that despite current challenges facing democracies worldwide, democracy remains the most sustainable form of government, fostering development, independence, human rights, peace, and stability.

He expressed his belief in democratic principles and optimism for Nigeria’s continued progress, emphasizing the importance of harmony and respect for human dignity.

“Not so long ago, June 12 was approved and recognized as Nigeria’s Democracy Day. While we celebrate our nascent democracy, it’s worthy of note to recognize the sacrifices of all Patriots, Heroes and Statesmen at this stage of our Nation-state.

Today, we are witnessing challenging times for democracies — everywhere, and Nigeria is not an exception. As a matter of fact, social change and the clash of civilizations have raised valid questions for all Promoters of Democracy.

In this ever dynamic world, there is no other sustainable form of government that can create the necessary conditions for development, independence and respect for human rights, while ensuring peace and stability simultaneously – than Democracy.

It has been 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria. I believe in the tenets of democratic principles, and I remain optimistic that we will continue to progress as we master the art of victory through harmony; and the respect for human dignity”.

Happy Democracy Day, Tarabans.
