
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Thursday announced the constitution of the Karim Lamido Peace and Justice Commission as part of measures to investigate and address the recent crisis in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
Kefas made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held with community leaders, traditional rulers, security agencies, and representatives of affected groups in Karim Lamido.
He said the newly established commission would facilitate the restoration of peace and stability in the area, investigate the root causes of the crisis, promote reconciliation among affected communities, and ensure that justice is served.
“In response to the unfortunate crisis in Karim Lamido LGA, we have constituted the Karim Lamido Peace and Justice Commission to lead efforts in restoring peace, investigating the causes of the conflict, and promoting lasting reconciliation,” the governor said.
To enhance early warning and prevent further escalation of violence, the governor also disclosed that an Incident Reporting Hotline will be activated to allow residents to report any signs of tension or threats in their communities.
Governor Kefas sympathized with families who lost loved ones in the violence and prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls.
He assured the displaced communities of government’s unwavering support, noting that all necessary assistance and protection will be provided to help them rebuild their lives.
“We will stand by the communities affected by this violence and provide them with the needed support and protection to recover and heal,” he added.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from stakeholders to work together with the state government to achieve lasting peace in the area.
