Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested two suspected terrorists in separate intelligence-led operations in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
In a statement on Thursday, the 6 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Capt. Olubodunde Oni, said the arrests followed credible intelligence and swift action by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari.
One of the suspects, identified as 45-year-old Felix Myina from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, was apprehended for his alleged role as a high-ranking member of a notorious kidnapping and banditry syndicate.
According to preliminary investigations, Myina is a close associate of a wanted criminal kingpin known as Mcianan, alias “Yellow,” whose group has posed significant threats along the Jootar–Wukari road axis.
A Tecno mobile phone was recovered from the suspect during his arrest.
In a separate operation, troops acting on reports of imminent terrorist activities intercepted another suspect, Abubakar Yusuf, aged 26, believed to be a member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Yusuf, a native of Borno State residing in Gassol LGA of Taraba, was caught performing suspicious rituals at the Aku-Uka Palace Junction—one of the locations earlier flagged as a potential ISWAP target.
Troops recovered ritual items from the scene, including one dead chicken, nine unhatched rotten eggs, one animal horn, a bottle containing powdered substance, and pieces of fresh meat.
According to military sources, Yusuf allegedly intended to “spiritually tie” the town to ease access for terrorist infiltration.
Both suspects are currently in custody and are said to be providing useful information to security operatives.
Reacting to the arrests, Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops for their vigilance and lauded residents for their timely cooperation.
He urged the public to remain alert and continue sharing credible information to support security operations across Taraba State.
“The Brigade remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and restore peace and stability in the region,” he said.
