Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have rescued a deputy commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and five others from suspected kidnappers in Taraba State.
The rescue operation followed a distress call at about 11:40 p.m. on April 27 from a youth leader, Abe Samuel, who reported that a Toyota Hilux vehicle had come under attack along the Wukari–Kente road.
Responding swiftly, troops arrived at the scene and discovered the vehicle, with registration number FG 117-B03, abandoned with a punctured tyre, while the occupants were missing.
A joint search-and-rescue operation was immediately launched, leading to the successful recovery of the victims by 6:00 a.m. on April 28. Among those rescued was Mr Musa Hudu, Deputy Commander, NDLEA Zone 1, Ibadan, alongside five other individuals.
According to preliminary investigations, three armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, had attacked the vehicle and fired at it using dane guns, prompting the occupants to flee into the bush for safety.
The victims were found unharmed and were later escorted to safety. Their vehicle was subsequently repaired, and they continued their journey.
The military is yet to provide additional details regarding the identity or arrest of the suspects involved in the attack.
