
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has matriculated 8,504 students into its 100 and 200-level degree programs for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, disclosed this on Monday during the matriculation ceremony held at the university’s Convocation Square.
Mele said the admissions were processed through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Direct Entry (DE), and the university’s Remedial Arts and Science programs.
He provided a breakdown of the admitted students as follows:
College of Medical Sciences – 585
Faculty of Agriculture – 234
Faculty of Arts – 254
Faculty of Education – 1,350
Faculty of Engineering – 834
Faculty of Environmental Studies – 82
Faculty of Law – 113
Faculty of Life Sciences – 1,494
Faculty of Management Sciences – 1,100
Faculty of Pharmacy – 239
Faculty of Physical Sciences – 1,345
Faculty of Social Sciences – 754
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – 120
The Vice-Chancellor described matriculation as a significant academic milestone, marking the official enrollment of students into the university.
“This ceremony signifies the beginning of your academic journey. I urge you to remain committed to your studies and conduct yourselves in line with the university’s rules and regulations,” Mele said.
He also warned against social vices, including examination malpractice and cultism, emphasizing that such activities could jeopardize students’ futures.
A key highlight of the event was the oath-taking session, administered by the university’s Registrar, Mallam Ahmed Lawan.
