Wife Arrested for Killing Drunk Husband in Adamawa

A pregnant housewife simply identified as Maryam Idris, has been remanded in prison custody in Yola, Adamawa State for allegedly killing her drunk husband, Patrick John.

The Chief Magistrate Court 2 presided by Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu, in Yola, issued the remand order when the defendant was arraigned before his court.

The judge remanded the pregnant housewife after she had pleaded guilty to the alleged offence of culpable homicide which runs contrary to section 191 of the penal code law 2018.

After the defendant had entered her guilt plea, the presiding judge consequently adjourned the matter to the 10th July, 2024, to await DPP’s vetting on case diary.

She was arraigned before the court by Sgt Ahmed Abubakar who held the brief of Inspector Hamza Abdullahi, and tendered the First Information Report which was read to her.

Maryam, who hails from Faram Faram village in Fufore LGA killed her husband by hitting him with a hoe on the forehead during quarrel.

The defendant who is currently cooling off her heels at Yolde Pate Correctional Facility however attributed her action to self defence.

It was leant that the drunk husband who returned home at about 10:3pm on the 13th June, 2024, met his pregnant wife sleeping with a mini skirt which according to sources, he was not comfortable with it.

The deceased engaged his wife in a free for all, held her by the neck and that their neighbours who had heard what was happening, rushed in and rescued her.

After intervention by neighbours, the deceased left and on his return for 2nd time, he descended on the defendant again and started beating her.

The defendant was said to have picked a hoe and hit him on the forehead, and that the deceased gave up his ghost while receiving treatment.
