Woman Kills Husband Over Food Dispute in Yobe – Police

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old woman, Hadiza Mamuda, for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic dispute over food in Garin Abba village, Fika Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the tragic incident occurred following a heated argument between the couple, which led the suspect to strike her husband with a wooden object.

“The man was confirmed dead as a result of the injury sustained from the attack. The suspect has been taken into custody, and investigation is currently ongoing,” the statement read.

The deceased, a polygamist with two wives and five children, has left behind a mourning family and community.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, while reacting to the development, described the incident as unfortunate and avoidable, calling for collective action to curb domestic violence in the state.

“We urge traditional and religious leaders to intensify sensitization efforts on peaceful conflict resolution and the dangers of domestic abuse,” the commissioner said.

He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property while promising that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from community leaders, who called for stronger family counseling mechanisms and community-based interventions to tackle the rising trend of domestic-related violence in rural areas.
