The Yobe State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has refused to join the indefinite strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
According to the NMA chairman in Yobe State, Abubakar Kaumi-Mala, the association is not an affiliate of the NLC or TUC and therefore cannot participate in the strike. He emphasized that healthcare is a critical and humanitarian sector that cannot be shut down.
Kaumi-Mala confirmed that all hospitals and clinics in the state are open and functioning normally, with doctors, nurses, and other health workers attending to patients as usual.
He added that ward rounds, surgeries, and other medical services are ongoing, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery to the public.
Visits to various hospitals and clinics in Damaturu, the state capital, corroborated the chairman’s statement, with staff and health workers seen attending to patients and performing their duties as usual.
