Islamic clerics and preachers in Yobe State have received a directive to steer clear of contentious and inciting topics in their sermons throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.
During a one-day interactive session with Chief Imams of Friday Mosques and preachers from all 17 local government areas, Yobe State Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana emphasized the importance of promoting unity and peace through their messages.
The session aimed to equip the Imams for the upcoming Ramadan lectures and provide a platform for sharing insights and ideas to enhance the quality of their Friday sermons and Ramadan Tafsir.
Deputy Governor Gubana urged the participants to refrain from discussing controversial subjects that could mislead their followers. Instead, he encouraged them to exemplify the noble qualities of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and focus on preaching peace, harmony, and fundamental teachings about the five pillars of Islam.
Furthermore, Gubana called on parents to prioritize the religious education of their children, emphasizing that accountability for their upbringing lies with the parents in the afterlife.
In response, Chief Imam Umar Ahmad Talba Kura of Bade expressed gratitude on behalf of the attending clerics for the government’s initiative in fostering a conducive environment for the propagation of Islam and promoting positive values within the community.
