Yobe State Government has announced plans to hold a grand ceremony in honour of Nafisa Abdallah and Rukayya Muhammad Fema, two outstanding students who emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
The duo, aged 17 and 15 respectively, are students of Nigerian Tulip International College and represented Nigeria at the international competition. They triumphed over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries to clinch the top spots in English language skills and overall debate categories.
In a statement signed by the Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed on Tuesday, Governor Mai Mala Buni, described the achievement as a great honour to Yobe State and Nigeria.
“These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector,” the governor said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing quality education for all children in the state.
Both Nafisa and Rukayya are beneficiaries of the Governor Buni-led administration’s scholarship programme, which currently supports 890 students with full tuition at Nigerian Tulip International College.
Governor Buni emphasized the state’s continuous efforts to revamp education, including the reconstruction of schools destroyed by insurgency, provision of learning materials, recruitment of qualified teachers, and enhancement of infrastructure.
He also appealed to parents to cooperate with the government in ensuring children attend school, stressing that education remains a key driver of development.
Currently, over 40,000 Yobe students are on government scholarships across universities and tertiary institutions in Nigeria and abroad.
The state had earlier celebrated the graduation of 167 students from Indian universities, who completed degrees in medical sciences, computer science, and engineering under the state-funded foreign scholarship scheme.
The date for the recognition ceremony will be announced in due course.
