“You Are the Enemies of Progress,” Gov. Bala Tells Sayawa Chiefdom Critics

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday described opponents of his administration’s move to establish the Sayawa Chiefdom with headquarters in Tafawa Balewa town as “enemies of progress.”

The governor made this statement during a Christmas courtesy visit by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its chairman, Rev. Abraham Damina, to the Government House in Bauchi.

Mohammed commended the Sayawa community for their trust and patience in the ongoing efforts to establish the long-anticipated Chiefdom. He noted that his administration is working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the state.

“Peace will not exist without your assistance. You still give me the benefit of the doubt, even with your strong sense of actualization and self-determination in founding the Sayawa Chiefdom,” he said.

He disclosed that several committees had been constituted, and stakeholders consulted, to address lingering issues in the process, including the contentious decision on the location of the Chiefdom’s headquarters.

“There are controversial topics and locations rooted in years of mistrust and skepticism,” he said.

The governor, however, vowed to press forward, despite the criticisms and personal attacks directed at him over the decision.

“Even with the unwarranted insults directed at me, I will accept and endure them. But I can assure you that we will succeed because we know those behind these actions are against progress,” he added.

He emphasized the need for unity and understanding among all parties involved, expressing optimism about the sacrifices and contributions made by both sides to achieve peace.

“I’m glad you’re seeing what we’re doing and that you value the efforts from all sides. All we want is to bring about peace that benefits everyone,” the governor said.

Mohammed also highlighted his personal ties to the region, stressing that his administration was committed to achieving what others could not.

“If I don’t do it as someone who is directly connected to this area, I don’t know who will,” he stated.

The governor called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the peaceful establishment of the Sayawa Chiefdom.
