NEDC Flags Off Twin Bridge Projects in Adamawa to Ease Community Hardship

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has officially handed over two major bridge projects to Triacta Nigeria Ltd. in Adamawa State, aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps and improving connectivity in the region.

The projects include the construction of a new 5-span, 100-metre bridge along the Lakare/Bole Road in Yola South Local Government Area and the rehabilitation of the 10-span, 400-metre Numan Bridge.

For years, the absence of a functional bridge at the Lakare/Bole crossing had left residents stranded during the rainy season, cutting off access to farms, markets, schools, and essential services.

At the handover ceremony, the NEDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Muhammad Goni Alkali, represented by the State Coordinator, Barr. Khalifa M. Lawan, said the projects reflected the Commission’s commitment to addressing the infrastructural challenges facing communities across the Northeast.

“The NEDC is committed to changing the narrative of infrastructure in the Northeast,” Lawan said. “We urge the community to take ownership of this project and protect it. To the contractor, we say — do not compromise on standard.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Energy Development, Engr. Muhammad Suleiman, commended the NEDC for what he described as “giant projects,” pledging the state government’s full support to ensure smooth implementation.

“The state government is fully behind this initiative. We will provide all necessary support to ensure timely delivery for the benefit of our people,” he stated.

The Acting District Head of Lakare/Bole, Alhaji Mohammed Jingi, also expressed gratitude to the NEDC and the state government, describing the intervention as a long-awaited lifeline for the community.

“For years, our people have suffered during the rainy season. This project brings us great relief and renewed hope,” Jingi said.

Similarly, the Senior Project Manager of Triacta Nigeria Ltd., Engr. Ghassan Ghanem, assured stakeholders of quality delivery and adherence to schedule.

“We assure the NEDC and the good people of this community of our commitment to timely completion and the highest standard of work,” he said.

The event ended with jubilation as residents of Lakare/Bole and surrounding communities hailed the NEDC’s intervention, describing it as the beginning of a new era of connectivity, safety, and economic growth.

Construction work is expected to commence immediately on both bridge projects.
