Adamawa Police Deny Alleged Beheading of CAN Chairman, Warn Against Fake News

The Adamawa State Police Command has debunked a social media report alleging that the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state was beheaded by suspected terrorists.

A statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, described the report as “false, malicious, and inciting.”

According to the statement, the post, which originated from a Facebook user identified as Lionman Lioni, falsely claimed that Fulani terrorists had attacked and beheaded the CAN chairman in Adamawa State.

“The Command wishes to categorically refute this malicious claim in its entirety. There is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State,” the statement said.

It added that the report was the handiwork of mischief-makers aimed at creating panic, tension, and religious disaffection among peace-loving residents of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, therefore urged members of the public to disregard the fake report and always verify information from credible sources before sharing.

Nguroje further disclosed that an investigation had commenced to identify and prosecute those behind the false publication.
