Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the release of N500 million as counterpart funding for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The intervention, implemented under the Child Nutrition Fund, is aimed at expanding access to treatment for children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) across the state.
A statement by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said Gombe State has remained one of the few states consistently meeting its nutrition counterpart funding obligations.
He said the latest release reinforces the administration’s investments in programmes targeted at vulnerable groups, particularly children under five, contributing to steady gains in child survival and overall health outcomes.
RUTF, a nutrient-rich therapeutic food, is widely used in the community-based management of severe acute malnutrition, enabling malnourished children to recover safely, including in remote areas with limited access to health facilities.
Misilli said the sustained investment in nutrition aligns with Governor Yahaya’s strategy to reduce child mortality, improve early childhood development and build a healthier future generation for the state.
According to the statement, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting impactful health and nutrition programmes, stressing that “no child in Gombe should suffer or lose their life to a condition that is preventable and treatable.”
