Police rescue two kidnapped boys in Borno

The Borno State Police Command has rescued two boys aged four and five who were abducted in the Jan Block area of Jere Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri, noting that the successful rescue was part of ongoing efforts by the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, to intensify the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

According to the statement, the incident began on December 4, 2025, when a report of three missing children was lodged at the Jere Divisional Headquarters, prompting swift police action.

Later that same day, one of the abducted children was returned to the entrance of his family home, accompanied by a note demanding ₦10 million as ransom for the release of the remaining two boys.

The following day, December 5, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Jere mobilised operatives who mounted a strategic ambush at the agreed ransom collection point.

“At about 0300hrs, the abductors, upon suspecting police presence, abandoned the two boys and the decoy ransom and fled,” the statement read.

Daso noted that poor visibility at the time hindered efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects. Nonetheless, the two children were rescued unharmed and reunited with their family.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation to track down the suspects and directed all Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to intensify patrols, conduct aggressive stop-and-search operations, and sustain high-visibility policing to curb the recent increase in violent crimes.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
