A United States lawmaker, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has commended Nigeria’s ongoing security reforms following what he described as a “productive and positive” engagement with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
In a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday, Moore said the discussions focused on concrete actions aimed at strengthening security nationwide, degrading terrorist networks in the North-East, and addressing persistent killings in the Middle Belt — an issue of particular concern to President Donald Trump and the US delegation.
He also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the successful rescue of 100 abducted Catholic school children, describing the operation as a positive demonstration of the administration’s growing responsiveness to security challenges and its commitment to the emergency measures declared by the President.
Moore noted that the US delegation’s sense of urgency was well received, adding that both sides are making progress toward a stronger cooperative security framework. He pointed to the newly established Nigeria–US joint task force as a key indication of deepening collaboration.
“There is clearly an openness and willingness on the part of the Nigerian government to work with the United States to tackle these critical issues. Now, that openness has to translate to concrete action,” he said.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, Moore said developments are “moving in the right direction,” expressing optimism about continued dialogue with Nigerian authorities.
“Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria,” he added.
