The Federal Government has declared December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year celebrations.
The declaration was contained in a statement on Monday, issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the approval was given by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr Ajani noted that the public holidays are in line with the government’s tradition of allowing citizens to celebrate important religious and national events.
She urged Nigerians to use the festive period to promote peace, unity and goodwill, while reflecting on the values of love, tolerance and national cohesion.
The Federal Government also encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and contribute to national development as the New Year approaches.
