Police Arrest 57 Suspected Shilla Gang Members in Adamawa Crackdown

The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested 57 suspected members of Shilla gangs during a coordinated operation targeting criminal hideouts in Jimeta, Girei and Yola metropolis.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in Yola.

According to the statement, the operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, to combat gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance and other criminal activities across the state.

Nguroje said the operation was carried out by Divisional Police Officers under the supervision of their respective Area Commanders in identified criminal black spots within Jimeta and Yola metropolitan areas.

He stated that the operation resulted in the arrest of 57 suspects for offences ranging from alleged involvement in Shilla-related activities to public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons and prohibited substances.

The police spokesman added that various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances were recovered from the suspects during the raid.

“The exhibits have been documented and will be tendered as evidence in court during prosecution,” he said.

Nguroje said the suspects had been charged to court in accordance with the law, while profiling and further investigations were ongoing to determine their possible involvement in other criminal activities.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police as commending officers who participated in the operation for their professionalism and commitment to duty.

The CP reassured residents of the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal gangs and ensure lasting peace and security across the state.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to assist the police in preventing and detecting crime.
