Police rescue kidnapped community leader in Gombe, arrest three suspects

The Gombe State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped community leader, Hon. Hassan Reuben, and arrested three suspects in connection with the crime.

Hon. Reuben, a resident of Nahuta Village, Tula, in Kaltungo Local Government Area, was abducted on January 20, 2026, according to the police.

Confirming the development on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the command received information about the abduction at about 11:00am on January 21, prompting immediate deployment of security operatives.

“Following swift action and sustained efforts, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt on the same day,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that the rescue operation was carried out by operatives from the Awak and Tula Police Divisions, working in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters.

The victim was rescued at Tule Berbere, a location a few kilometres from Kunge Village in the Awak District of Kaltungo Local Government Area.

Abdullahi added that Hon. Reuben was immediately taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and has since reunited safely with his family.

In a related development, the police disclosed that three women, suspected to be spouses or accomplices of the kidnappers, were arrested at the location where the victim was rescued.

The suspects were identified as Aisha Salihu, Fati Ado, and Adama Buba, all from Luga Edi Kamo, Awak, in Kaltungo Local Government Area. Police said the suspects claimed ignorance of their exact ages.

The command noted that investigations were ongoing and assured residents that further developments would be communicated as efforts continue to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

The Gombe State Police Command also reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
